Percentages of possible savings from particular energy-saving construction practices.
In order of most effective steps (what to do first if you can’t do it all):
1. Enveloping home/Spray Foam insulation: possible reduction of 40% of energy costs for heating and cooling during high-load months (not shoulder seasons)
2. ICF construction: possible reduction of 7% of energy costs for heating and cooling
3. Air Distribution: possible reduction of 5-10% of energy costs for heating and cooling
4. Geothermal Heat Pump: possible reduction of 50% of energy costs compared to traditional system
5. Metal roof: possible reduction of 15% of energy costs for heating and cooling
6. Hybrid water heaters: possible reduction of 50% of costs for hot water
7. Load Metering and management: possible reduction of 10% of plug load (different than energy costs)
